Leveling Kits: A Closer Look at Leveling Lift Kits
When shopping for leveling
kits, it’s important to note that there are many different types and variations of leveling lift kits out there to the point where it can get a bit confusing.
This is typically the case when it comes to all suspension components. Throw in the fact that leveling kits are typically not as widely taken into consideration as other major suspension components, and leveling lift kits can get a bit confusing.
Fortunately, Winch Depot is at your service. Leveling
kits may seem like an unusual topic for a winch supplier to cover, but considering that the added load of winches, winch bumpers, and other accessories are often things that would necessitate needing leveling lift kits, we find it only appropriate.
Leveling Kits at a Glance
Though seemingly simple in concept, leveling
kits are actually quite intricate in practice than one might suspect. The general premise behind leveling lift kits is to provide additional lift on one particular section of a vehicle, typically either the front or the rear.
This comes into play when suspension modifications to a vehicle might cause it to have an uneven stance, or possibly when you need to eek out an extra inch or a few of tire clearance to make room for oversized tires.
Where matters get slightly more complicated is the various types and applications of leveling kits. Essentially, there are 3 primary types of leveling
lift kits: strut extensions, torsion keys, and coil spring spacers. The kind you need is entirely dependent upon your vehicle.
In the end, however, all leveling kits serve the same purpose, and there is no type that is definitively superior to another.
Block Kits
Block
kits are also a form of leveling kits that deserve some consideration. While they technically fall under the category of leveling lift kits, block kits are devoted solely to lifting the rear end of a vehicle in order to accommodate additional weight from towing or hauling.
Block kits can also be utilized as a way to even out a vehicle’s stance, but primarily, they are best used in towing and hauling applications.
Leveling Kits vs. Air Leveling Kits
Although they sound quite similar, there is most definitely a difference between standard leveling kits and air leveling kits.
True, the two share the same basic functionality of providing lift. But whereas leveling kits are more of a permanent fixture that provides stable lift day in and day out, air leveling kits are more temporary in their usage.
Air leveling kits can come in a variety of forms, include air lifting springs, or components of some form that insert within a vehicle’s suspension and can be aired up or down to accommodate heavier towing or hauling weights.
In this way, air
leveling kits are geared more towards load-carrying applications, and most definitely should not be considered as a suitable substitute for actual leveling kits.
